Develop algorithms and software using outputs from common sequence analysis tools and protein structure analyses. The contractor may also be required to develop automated procedures for inclusion into bioinformatics workflows and visualization tools.
Follow good coding practices, develop re-usable and well-documented code, research reports and other documentation as needed, sharing information with project teams within agreed timeframes.
Skills: Knowledge requirements include an understanding of structural bioinformatics and statistical sequence analysis, including phylogenetic algorithms;
Technical requirements include the ability to develop algorithms based on user requirements for the analysis of protein sequence , protein structure and ontology mapping. Programming in high level language such as Python or Perl is preferred. However, some projects might require programming in more than one language. Experience/knowledge in R, MatLab in addition to a web programming language (e.g. PHP, JavaScript, HTML5) would be an asset.
Experience in the use of HPC environments, and/ development of web-based user interfaces to facilitate rapid delivery of tools would be considered assets.
Education: M.Sc. (with minimum of 2 years experience) or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Physics or similar analytical field
