Postdoctoral Fellow : San Antonio, TX, United States

Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute

The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI) at the UT Health Science Center – San Antonio is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral fellow to work in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Pertsemlidis.
We are seeking a motivated, creative postdoctoral fellow to join a team effort to understand how small non-coding RNAs regulate the response of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents, through the identification of microRNAs for which expression is a biomarker of either the presence or progression of specific tumors or of the likely response of a tumor to drug treatment, and of microRNA mimics or inhibitors that can be delivered as therapeutic agents for the treatment of such tumors. Our work is supported by an R01 from the National Cancer Institute and involves collaborations with UT Southwestern Medical Center and UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. Candidates are expected to work closely with other members of the lab and coordinate with collaborators. It is expected that the candidate will work with cancer cell panels, using molecular biology, bioinformatics and multiple assays as necessary to ask questions that arise.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. or M.D. in a relevant field preferably with five years or less of postdoctoral experience. Applicants should have excellent communication skills, and ability to conduct research independently. The ideal candidate will have experience with tissue culture of primary and immortalized cells; molecular biology; cloning; RNA and DNA isolation; gel electrophoresis; Western blots; immunofluorescence; cell viability and proliferation assays; phase-contrast and fluorescent microscopy; flow cytometry and cell sorting; and the ability to implement a variety of assays as needed. Experience with xenografts and pharmacological agents in vivo is a plus. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Additional information regarding the Pertsemlidis lab can be found at:http://gccri.uthscsa.edu/APertsemlidis.asp.
