Blizard Institute Logo
As part of a strategic collaboration between the Blizard Institute and The Dr Hadwen Trust for Humane Research applications are invited for the post of Chair in Replacement Science. The chair will be located within one of the Centres that constitute the Blizard Institute, which is based within an award-winning building on the Whitechapel campus (http://blizard.qmul.ac.uk/). This exciting environment contains world class facilities for biomedical research based on an innovative open plan design and includes core facilities for Imaging, Flow Cytometry and genomics. In the UK Research Assessment Exercise 2008 the Blizard Institute was joint first out of 28 medical school returns in hospital based clinical subjects with 80% of the faculty rated as world leading or internationally excellent. Our medical school was ranked in the top 5 in the UK.
The chair in Replacement Science will be the first chair dedicated to replacement science and recognises the fact that the Blizard Institute has been a pioneer in the development of in vitro models using human cells and tissue and in particular the development of three-dimensional models in the fields of Cutaneous and Gastroenterology research. By appointing a chair in Replacement Science we aim to encourage and stimulate research of the highest-quality and will represent a major stepping-stone towards the development of a global community for the development of human-relevant methods and alternatives to animal use in research. We are especially interested in hearing from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following key areas: 3Dcell culture, 3D modelling and bioinformatics and regenerative medicine.
This post is full-time for 5 years in the first instance, with a starting salary dependent upon experience. The post also comes with generous start up funds.
