Research Scientist - Proteomics @ Vertex



Position Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will apply state-of-the-art expertise in cellular and molecular biology, proteomics, biochemistry, and computational analysis to advance drug-discovery research. 
Position Summary
Design and interpret mass spectrometry-based proteomic experiments across multiple research projects and platforms. Design and execute complex cellular, biochemical and mass spectroscopy experiments to elucidate biomarkers and mechanism-of-action in phenotypic screens. The ability to analyze complex datasets as well as interpreting the results into a biological context is critical for this position. Work with teams of scientists across global Vertex locations to execute experiments, coordinate all aspects of sample data handling, data analysis, and biological interpretation. Presentation and participation in interdisciplinary project teams is expected.

• Conduct complex cellular experiments with sophisticated design and execution.
• Extensive proteomics sample handling and preparation experience.
• Thorough data analysis and critical reviews of ongoing activities.
• Effective project planning, documentation, and presentation skills.


Position Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in biochemistry, biology, or a related area with at least 4+ years’ experience.
• A proven track record in cell culture methods and protein handling expertise for challenging biochemical and proteomics studies.
• Working knowledge of MS based computational software such as MASCOT, Protein Discoverer, Pinpoint, Excalibur, Analyst, as well as multivariate data modeling software.
• Familiarity with isotopic labeling, bioinformatics, statistics, and transcript profiling is desirable.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
