JOB DESCRIPTION
Incumbent will join the Bioinformatics Team at the CGR and will participate in software and database development to support large-scale sequencing projects including data management, data analysis, data dissemination and visualization. In addition, incumbent will be expected to provide direct bioinformatics support to manage sequencing analysis tasks and deliverables to meet project’s needs (for example, custom scripting or manual work for data format conversion and data extraction). Incumbent will perform these assignments independently with input and guidance from the supervisor. Progress on assignments will be reported on a regular basis and incumbent may be responsible for presenting data at meetings, conferences or other venues.
Job Requirements
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in computer science/bioinformatics/math/computer related field from an accredited college or university or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.- In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of four (4) years of software development experience is required.- Must be proficient in at least one programming/scripting languages and at least one database server.- Must be proficient in Linux and web server development.- Must have hands-on experience in managing, processing and analyzing large-scale next-generation sequences.- This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Master's degree in computer science or bioinformatics.- JAVA and Python programming.- Oracle and MySQL database programming.- Project management.- Experience in managing complex programs or large production units.- Experience in the field of molecular and population genetics.SAIC-Frederick Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC, is accelerating the development of new technologies and treatments for patients with cancer and AIDS.
