Bioinformatics Specialist Ii
Location : Massachusetts, Boston Refer job # NXVE158756 Job Responsibilities and Requirements: We will establish an infrastructure to aggregate available data on genome sequence and phenotype in T2D and myocardial infarction, bring together an array of data on samples characterized with both sequence and relevant phenotype data, deploy automated analytical methods and query tools to provide the clearest and most interpretable answers about the relationships between gene function and diabetes related phenotypes. The Diabetes Portal Technical Lead will be responsible for managing the technical aspects of this effort, including building it in a scalable manner such that the architecture and tools can be deployed for other diseases. Principal Duties Lead software architect and engineer to create a portal for type 2 diabetes genetics data Develop software prototypes for automated statistical analysis, query and visualization, supervise development of production quality software and deploy them for routine use. Explore novel data visualization and text-mining tools. Supervise a small team (of three software engineers and computational biologists) responsible for implementation software infrastructure, analysis pipelines and result visualization. Define and manage strategic and tactical milestones for implementation of portal Work closely the Creative Lead to define Requirements and to meet milestones Collaborate with research consortia that contribute data and analytical methods Liaison to other groups within Broad and MGH who will use infrastructure for other diseases such as psychiatric disease and inflammatory disease. Will lead analyses of data and preparation of manuscripts resulting in peer reviewed publications Skills Practical Experience with programming languages Java and C; and analytical programs MATLAB, R, or Python Experience with computational analysis, algorithm development and statistics Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage work by others Excellent collaborative skills with senior researchers in academia and industry Education PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
