BIOINFORMATICIAN, Picower Institute for Learning and Memory, to perform computer analysis of next-generation DNA sequencing experiments, with a particular focus on ChIP-Seq and RNA-Seq data; incorporate bioinformatics techniques, published data, and unpublished laboratory results to analyze and interpret next-generation sequencing data; and assist investigators in elucidating novel biological pathways relevant to learning and memory.  Duties include utilizing software to generate and analyze next-generation sequencing data from ChIP-Seq experiments; analyzing RNA-Seq data to examine the expression profiling of coding and noncoding RNAs; applying the ENCODE processing pipeline to analyze CHIP-seq data and identify chromatin domains and associated regulatory elements; providing a characterization of the physical organization of the chromatin around selected promoters and other functionBal elements using chromosome conformation capture combined with high-throughput sequencing (4C-seq); developing and using scripts to create and manipulate data files; assisting in the selection of statistical methods to analyze complex data sets; incorporating information from published human and mouse genome, gene expression profiles, and genome-wide association studies in analyzing and interpreting next-generation sequencing results; implementing a variety of solutions and novel strategies to resolve analytical problems and improve interpretation of results; reporting project data to the director according to established timelines in preparation for publication in peer-reviewed journals; and related tasks as needed.


 

A master's degree or Ph.D. in biology, bioinformatics, or related field; at least four year's experience in bioinformatics; familiarity with data visualization methods, i.e., ability to package and communicate complex processed data clearly and effectively through graphical means; strong statistical analysis background; excellent organizational and analytical skills; and ability to work independently and as part of a team.  MIT-00009678
