Today it is hard to imagine an area of knowledge that can be further developed without the use of computers and computing.

With biology, which has grown unpredictable in recent decades, the case is no different. The emergence of a new discipline, bioinformatics, brings together molecular biology, biotechnology and information technology in the same body of knowledge that advances at an unstoppable pace.

Bioinformatics is defined as research, development or application of computational tools and approaches for expanding the use of biological, medical, behavioral or health, including tools that serve to acquire, store, organize, analyze, or visualize such data.

This book presents some theoretical issues, reviews and a wide variety of applications where bioinformatics intervenes. For a better understanding, the chapters are grouped into two parts. In the first, subjects are more oriented towards the review of the literature and theoretical issues. The second part consists of application-oriented chapters that report case studies in which it is a specific biological problem with bioinformatics tools.
