The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia invites candidates for a Research Associate (Postdoctoral) position available to study the genetic basis of obesity and its associated metabolic syndrome, and their link to premature aging using the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. 

The projects take multidisciplinary approaches that integrate C. elegans genetics, high-throughput chemical and RNAi screens, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. Additionally we use mammalian model systems to test the conservation of the genetic pathways or drug targets we uncover using C. elegans. 

The candidate must have strong motivation to learn and succeed as an independent scientist. A PhD in life sciences by the appointment start date is required. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. C. elegans, other model system or human metabolism, and/or next-gen sequencing experience are a plus.
