Head, Bioinformatics Oncology Research Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research - Greater Boston Area

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatics scientist to lead the Oncology Bioinformatics group in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership, collaboration and communication skills, and will;
• Lead a team of 6-7 experienced bioinformatics scientists and serve as part of a global bioinformatics leadership team responsible for strategic planning, decision-making, execution and milestone delivery
• Develop and implement a scientific vision for supporting target discovery, drug discovery, and patient stratification teams
• Interface with key stakeholders within Oncology research teams and across organizations within Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) to address and resource Bioinformatics needs
• Ensure active collaboration with relevant teams in NIBR-IT and technology platform groups to accomplish disease area goals
• Identify, build and manage collaborations with external academic and industry groups

Desired Skills & Experience

To qualify, candidates must have:

• PhD in bioinformatics, statistics, molecular biology, computer science or a related field, with 5-10 years of management and leadership experience
• In-depth knowledge of cancer genomics with proven track record of leading the development and deployment of bioinformatics systems and applications that are an integral part of drug discovery and technology development
• Demonstrated ability to establishing effective collaborative relationships with cross functional scientific teams
• Strong communication skills and ability to represent the group within NIBR and throughout the wider scientific community
• Demonstrated organizational skills, aligning available resources to meet key goals
• Experience with statistical methods for mining genomic data strongly preferred
• Experience with the analysis of next-generation sequencing data also preferred
