About The Crick:
The Institute will be a world-leading centre of biomedical research and innovation. Dedicated to research excellence, the Institute will have the scale, vision and expertise to tackle the most challenging scientific questions underpinning health and disease. It will be world-class with a strong national role - training scientists and developing ideas for public good. Due to open in 2015, the Crick will be located in a new, purpose built research centre at Brill Place, St. Pancras in London and when it is fully operational the Crick will employ 1,500 staff, including 1,250 scientists, and have an operating budget of over £100 million.
The Challenge:
- The Crick will require state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure to enable world-leading scientific research.
- The Crick's ICT will be science driven, flexible, and forward-looking, and it will expedite collaboration within and beyond the Institute.
- Research at the Crick will be data-intensive, and will involve experimental, theoretical and computational science. In addition, ICT will also support the business and business management systems required to run the Crick.
About You:
- As Director of Information and Computing Technology (ICT) you must be able to demonstrate exemplary achievements in an ICT leadership role in a complex science or research orientated organisation.
- You will have operated at senior executive level, and have a significant track record of managing large scale projects to time and within budget.
- It is likely that this will include completion of the development of a major greenfield site, a relocation programme, or a strategically significant and substantial merger or acquisition.
Key Objectives for the Director of Information and Computing Technology (ICT):
- Your primary focus as Director of Information and Computing Technology (ICT) will be to develop the ICT strategy, design the ICT architecture, create and populate an ICT organisation to enable the Institute's science research and support its business and operational systems.
- The Director of Information and Computing Technology (ICT) is accountable for designing and delivering an efficient and cost-effective ICT function.
- You will also specify and operate a wide area networking strategy and data centre operation, support and enable building management systems, access control and a secure wireless environment.
