Job Location: Carlsbad, Foster City, CA Staff Scientist, Bioinformatics
This position is a pivotal role within Ion Torrent. Opportunity for exceptional bioinformatics scientist with genomic analysis experience, who is highly creative and productive and who enjoys hands-on collaboration with molecular biology scientists in the development of a disruptive technology. This position will have high visibility throughout the company and will be an integral part of moving next generation sequencing into the clinical market.
Job responsibilities include:
· Develop algorithms and implementations to improve data analysis in support of development work
· Collaborate with molecular biologists, chemists and instrument engineers to develop diagnostics and identify opportunities for system improvement
· Collaborate with downstream application-focused bioinformatics scientists to improve performance for applications including but not limited to DNA variant calling and integration of DNA sequencing controls
Essential skills and background include:
· Outstanding graduate training and experience in bioinformatics, with expertise in areas such as next-generation sequencing or DNA microarrays.
· Excellent skills in data manipulation and analysis using tools such as Pyton/Perl, and R/Matlab in a Linux environment.
· Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external scientists.
· Expertise in the handling of huge bioinformatics datasets
Qualifications & Requirements:
PhD or MS/Bsc with at least 3 years of experience in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Human Genetics, Computational Genetics, or related field
Must have 3+ years experience developing algorithms for genomic analysis
