Satellite Workshop focusing on microeukaryote sequencing and associated bioinformatics

There will be a satellite workshop at the International Congress of Protistology meeting focusing on microeukaryote sequencing and associated bioinformatics.

It will be held on Wednesday July 31st, 1pm – 6pm at The Westin Bayshore, 1601 Bayshore Drive. Vancouver, BC, Canada

Organizers:
Andrew Allen, J. Craig Venter Institute
Robin Kodner, Western Washington University
Jon Kaye, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation

This workshop will feature presentation and discussions focusing on bioinformatics methods to analyze microbial eukaryote transcriptomes. The basis of the workshop is the Marine Microbial Eukaryotic Transcriptome Sequencing Project (MMETSP) http://marinemicroeukaryotes.org/. The MMETSP is a collaborative project supported by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to sequence the transcriptomes of approximately 750 samples from hundreds of diverse organisms. Highlights will include presentations on strategies for visualization of genomic data and approaches for using the R Package for Statistical Computing for analyses of gene expression profiles obtained from RNAseq data. In addition, the J. Craig Venter Institute will present their PhyloMetarep tool and provide associated “hands-on” training. PhyloMetarep is a comparative transcriptomics analysis and visualization environment under development in conjunction with the MMETSP program. The workshop will also feature presentations from students and researchers who are engaged in research related to various aspects of transcriptome analyses.

Snacks and beverages will be available. Additional details such as the final agenda and meeting room location will be provided at a later time.

Please RSVP by Friday, June 21st so we can get a rough headcount to Fransheska Rivera Vega (fransheska.rivera@moore.org). An RSVP is not needed to attend.
