The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute – (HKI, www.hki-jena.de) investigates the pathobiology of human-pathogenic fungi and identifies targets for the development of novel natural product-based antibiotics. The theoretical research group Applied Systems Biology at the HKI-Center for Systems Biology of Infection invites applications for
1 PhD position
for three years initially.
The research focus will be on modeling the interaction between the human-pathogenic fungi Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans and the immune system of the host. Computer models will be applied to simulate these interactions and will be based on the automated analysis of microscopic image data. These theoretical projects will be performed in close collaboration with experimental research groups at the HKI and other institutions.
Successful candidates …
… hold a degree in physics or bioinformatics or related disciplines
… are interested in theoretical immunology and host-pathogen interactions
… have strong interest in image analysis and mathematical modeling
… are familiar with object-oriented programming and/or image analysis software
Salary is paid according to German TV-L (salary agreement for public service employees). The HKI is an equal opportunity employer.
