Recruiting: Computational Biosciences Institute Postdoc Fellowships/Bioinformatics

Home
Background: UCLA has established the Computational Biosciences Institute (CBI) to foster the advancement of bioinformatics, genomic sciences, and translational biomedical sciences, with a focus on the integration of high throughput experiments with sophisticated computational analyses, which will lead to new discoveries and applications in life and biomedical sciences.
Under the leadership of a newly appointed Director, the proposed Computational Biosciences Institute will create the intellectual environment to integrate research and educational activities in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and the David Geffen School of Medicine as well as departments, institutes, and centers across campus to design new methodologies and provide computational support to enhance ongoing bioscience research. This Institute will advance the deep research and new approaches necessary for new discoveries in personalized health treatments, disease discovery, production of biofuels, translation of clinical population data, and management of threatened nonhuman species.
One of the central goals of the CBI is to house a Collaboratory: a group of collaborative postdocs, whose function will be to engage in research projects that are conducted jointly between faculty of the CBI and non-CBI UCLA bioscience faculty. Along with cutting edge research in new data analysis methodologies, these postdocs would also lead tutorials to train students and postdocs within UCLA in the latest next-generation sequence analysis techniques. These intensive “boot camps” will enable biology researchers with limited data analysis skills to acquire the basic expertise necessary for processing next-generation sequence data.
Postdoc Responsibilities: Individual post-doctoral fellows will be assigned to work on specific bioscience research projects to develop tailored methodologies for genomic analysis. The post-doctoral fellows will also be responsible for organizing intensive tutorials about six times per year to train UCLA students and postdocs in the latest next-generation sequence analysis techniques. Office hours will also be held at the CBI site in Boyer Hall. Post-doctoral fellows must propose a joint project between a host lab (with expertise in bioinformatics) and a collaborating lab (with expertise in experimental biosciences). Both labs must be within UCLA.

Compensation: The fellowship will provide $20,000 per year plus partial benefits, with the remainder of the funds to cover the postdoctoral salary coming from the two host labs.
Eligibility: Must be current employee of UCLA Lab (postdoc or staff)
To Apply: Upload a CV, a two page research proposal, a one page teaching proposal, and two letters of recommendation from the sponsoring labs to https://www.lssa.ucla.edu/jobs/postDocFellowBioinformatics.php
